There are many places where the visitor can stand to do his shopping in Karpathos.
Pigadia, the lively capital, is the center of the island and is particularly suitable for long walks in the dozens of shops. Especially during the summer months, the shops are always full, both on the commercial and on the coastal road.
There are shops that can satisfy all needs: from newspapers and magazines, to modern clothes and shoes, combined with many of the traditional products of the island.
Apart from the capital, however, the traveler can find in other villages many souvenirs such as handmade textiles, painted ceramics, dishes, wood-carved toys and kitchen items.
In most parts of the island local honey and olive oil are sold, as well as wine.
Olympos, one of the most touristic destinations of the island, has shops with tourist goods, dominated by the famous traditional costumes, as well as musical instruments still manufactured by its inhabitants. The walk to the central square, passes through small shops, with traditional dishes and souvenirs, such as the Carpathian stivans.
