On the northwest coast of the island is the picturesque fishing village of Diafani.

It is the second port of the island and the port of Olympus, the traditional village of Karpathos, which impresses with its imposing landscapes, the old windmills and the well-preserved old buildings.

Diafani can be reached by boat from Karpathos or by road. It is 70 km from the capital. It is ideal for tranquility and enjoyment of the wonderful nature. The area has been inhabited since ancient times. Archaeological excavations have unearthed a Mycenaean tomb and other important finds which are kept in the British Museum.

The pebbled beaches of Diafani and Vananda are famous for their clear waters, while the village offers room rentals and fresh fish at the village’s seaside tavernas.

From here by boat you can visit the island of Saria, located north of Karpathos, and there you can enjoy swimming in remote but crystal blue beaches. In Saria, ruins of an Arab settlement are preserved. The island of Saria together with the northern part of Karpathos is a protected area of the European NATURA programme.

From Diafani again by boat you can reach the quieter small port, the picturesque settlement of Tristomo. Small island houses and fishing boats are waiting for you.
