Aperi is a beautiful mountain village, which stands out for its stately splendor. It was the capital of the island from 1700 to 1892.

When there were no more dangers from the sea, the capital was moved from the unseen Aperi, to the Wells near the sea.

But the nobility remained… And the seat of the Bishop of Karpathos and Kasos, the smallest in Greece.

It is located 8 km northwest of the town of Karpathos.

It is worth taking a walk in Aperi and admire its beauties. Walk through the streets of the village, the green alleys of Valadous, admire the imposing mansions in Pano Aperi, the churches of the districts ofAgios Vasileiou, Agios Charalambos and Loron and the vast green areas in Kato Aperi that surround the village.

Although most of the village’s residents are immigrants particularly to the United States, the houses, impressively most of them, are being renovated according to the dictates of tradition.

Nowhere is there any sign of abandonment. On the contrary, an idyllic picture spreads in the shadow of the hills.

Following the paths of the village, you will reach the wonderful beaches of Achata and the famous Kyra Panagia. It is one of the most famous of the island and one of the most photographed landscapes of Karpathos.

You will swim in its clear waters and relax on the vast sandy beach, enjoying the sun and the wonderful nature.

On your way to Kyra Panagia, stop at the green settlements of Merton and Katodi, coming from the north and south respectively, and taste the cool water flowing from the bars.

There are rooms to let in Aperi. Most of them can be found in the seaside settlement of the village, in Kyra Panagia.
