In Karpathos one can visit the following museums: Archaeological Museum of Pigadia, Folklore Museum of Meneta, Folklore Museum of Athos, Ecclesiastical Archaeological Museum of Arkassa and Agricultural Museum of Pylos.
Archaeological Museum of Karpathos
Τhe Archaeological Museum of Karpathos is located in the capital of the island, Pigadia, and started operating in 2005 with the cooperation of the two local Antiquities Departments (Kv΄ ΕΠΚΑ-4η ΕΒΑ) in the framework of the 3rd Community Support Framework.
It is housed in the western wing of the Prefecture, a building complex from the period of Italian rule.
It is a timeless museum and includes exhibits from prehistoric times to the post-Byzantine period.
The exhibition is divided into three sections:
- Prehistoric section, which includes Neolithic and Minoan/Mycenaean finds found on the island
- Historical section, with exhibits from the three ancient cities of the island, Karpathos, Arkesis and Vroukounda
- Byzantine section, with representative findings from the early Christian basilicas and settlements of Karpathos
The museum is dominated by the impressive wall mural of the arch of the ruined church of the Holy Apostles with the theme of the Deesis and the priests in communion. It dates back to the 14th century and is a remarkable example of painting in Karpathos, which over time would have been completely destroyed. The stages of conservation and restoration of this fresco are analysed in the text, with a detailed description of the methodology used for the first time in the conservation laboratories of the 4th EBA, with excellent results and a guarantee of many years to maintain its excellent condition.

Folklore Museum of Meneta
A two-storey building, about 200 years old, at the entrance of which there are carved graves, is the building that houses the Folklore Museum of Meneta.
The upper floor, with its black and white pebbled floor, houses objects of the daily life of the villagers, musical instruments and old photographs.
In the beginning, the upstairs was built with the intention of becoming a chapel, but it was never built.
The lower floor housed the village’s ossuary and its conversion into a museum began in 1995. There are agricultural tools and traditional kitchen utensils, as well as a large collection of hand-painted dishes with various folk motifs.

Folklore Museum of Athos
At the Folklore Museum, located in the traditional house of Varikas and Aristotle Stavrakis in Othos of Karpathos, the visitor has the opportunity to admire a faithful representation of the interior of a Karpathian house, as it was in the past.
The traditional house of Karpathos, usually one-roomed, wisely served the needs of daily life.
It was divided into a lower part, the bottom, where there was a wooden sofa and a low table for eating (called sofas) while in a raised wooden loft at the back, the soufa, the whole family slept on mattresses. Handmade embroidery and kilims adorned the railings of the soufa, of which the most elaborate, the stylo-mantilla, covered the pillar, a wooden vertical beam in the middle of the room, a symbolic and real support of the house.
Numerous plates and glassware, arranged on wooden shelves around the walls, completed the rich decoration.
There were also items of everyday rural life on display, as well as folk art items such as ceramics, textiles and traditional musical instruments.
The museum is owned by the Othu Council of Labour and Joy.
